MillerSmiles provides its weekly phishing analysis for the week of 14th August 2010 to 21st August 2010

Over the last week MillerSmiles has received many scams from the public and through its HoneyTrap scam detection system. Below we provide an analysis of the scams we have received for the week of 14th August 2010 to 21st August 2010


During the week we reported a total of 127 phishing scams

89 or 70% of these scams linked to websites that were still online and live, ready to capture personal data, when we reported them

The 12 most popular scams as defined by search engine visits to our archive of scams we reported this week and in previous weeks were (as percentage of all visits to the site)

  • 0.9% Account alert - livgreenwell@hotmail.co.uk alleged sender Hotmail reported 7th July 2010

  • 0.88% Online Security Backup alleged sender Natwest Digital Banking reported 29th June 2010

  • 0.52% Your Lloyds TSB Online Password and Memorable Word is revoked. alleged sender Lloyds reported 13th August 2010

  • 0.44% Attention! Unauthorized Account Access alleged sender hbosplc.com reported 6th August 2010

  • 0.41% Attention! Unauthorized Account Access alleged sender Halifax Bank PLC reported 5th August 2010

  • 0.4% AOL New Security Update alleged sender AOL Support reported 17th August 2010

  • 0.37% Chase Secure E-mail Service Update alleged sender 2010 JPMorgan Chase & Co. 201 reported 21st July 2010

  • 0.36% AOL Recent Change In Your Account alleged sender AOL reported 9th August 2010
