MillerSmiles provides its weekly phishing analysis for the week of 21st August 2010 to 28th August 2010

Over the last week MillerSmiles has received many scams from the public and through its HoneyTrap scam detection system. Below we provide an analysis of the scams we have received for the week of 21st August 2010 to 28th August 2010


During the week we reported a total of 117 phishing scams

95 or 81% of these scams linked to websites that were still online and live, ready to capture personal data, when we reported them

The 12 most popular scams as defined by search engine visits to our archive of scams we reported this week and in previous weeks were (as percentage of all visits to the site)

  • 0.84% Your Order with Amazon.com alleged sender Amazon reported 31st January 2007

  • 0.71% Online Security Backup alleged sender Natwest Digital Banking reported 29th June 2010

  • 0.6% YOUR ORDER WITH AMAZON.COM alleged sender Amazon.com reported 23rd August 2010

  • 0.57% Halifax Online Banking Account Alert! alleged sender Halifax Online reported 19th July 2010

  • 0.54% Attention! Unauthorized Account Access alleged sender hbosplc.com reported 6th August 2010

  • 0.54% Attention! Unauthorized Account Access alleged sender Halifax Bank PLC reported 5th August 2010

  • 0.5% Important Message | Lloyds TSB Security Department alleged sender Lloyds reported 21st August 2010

  • 0.45% Important Security Message alleged sender HSBC reported 19th July 2010
