PayPal scams are some of the most reported scams at MillerSmiles but this one employs a new tactic.

Many PayPal scams have been reported at MillerSmiles during our years in the anti-phishing business but this scam employs a new tactic.

Normall, PayPal scams (and indeed the vast majority of other phishing scams) simply ask the victim to confirm their account details in a phishing script. This scam is novel in that it tempts victims to hand over their details by informing users that the have added an additional address to their PayPal account.

"This email confirms that you have added the following address to your account:

If you did not authorize this change or if you need assistance with your account, go to:

https://paypal.com/webscreen=?cmd_remove/value=cookie?newadres [SIC]"

The apparent PayPal URL actually linsk to http://www.firstnewpage.us/webscr/_home/email_/run-login/index.htm

MillerSmiles traced the website hosting this content to a server based in Colfax, USA.

If you have received this email, please remember that it is very common for these email scams to be redistributed at a later date with only slightly different content or the same but with the fake page(s) hosted by a different provider. Also, once you have received one of these hoaxes, it is also common place to receive at least another one and usually a day or two after the first, although not necessarily from the same apparent sender.

We advise our readers to beware of variations of this email which will likely surface in the coming days and weeks.

REMEMBER: Lloyds TSB will never send you emails asking you to enter your account details.
