MillerSmiles provides its weekly phishing analysis for the week of 25th September 2010 to 2nd October 2010

Over the last week MillerSmiles has received many scams from the public and through its HoneyTrap scam detection system. Below we provide an analysis of the scams we have received for the week of 25th September 2010 to 2nd October 2010


During the week we reported a total of 245 phishing scams

158 or 64% of these scams linked to websites that were still online and live, ready to capture personal data, when we reported them

The 12 most popular scams as defined by search engine visits to our archive of scams we reported this week and in previous weeks were (as percentage of all visits to the site)

  • 1.03% NatWest Online Banking Access Expiry Notice :- alleged sender Natwest reported 23rd July 2010

  • 0.55% Hotmail e-mail alert ( arabelles@hotmail.com ) alleged sender Hotmail reported 17th January 2010

  • 0.39% New Message from Downey Savings Fraud Department alleged sender Downey Savings reported 29th July 2007

  • 0.31% Notice: You have 2 new security message alleged sender HSBC Bank plc® reported 12th July 2010

  • 0.31% Online Security Backup alleged sender Natwest Digital Banking reported 29th June 2010

  • 0.26% [Urgent issue Account-alert ! -killy_shadow@hotmail.com] alleged sender HSBC reported 20th September 2010

  • 0.25% Unauthorized Payment - Receipt From Skype Inc. alleged sender PayPal Security reported 13th September 2010

  • 0.23% Account alert - livgreenwell@hotmail.co.uk alleged sender Hotmail reported 7th July 2010

  • 0.22% Unauthorized Payment - Receipt From Skype Inc. alleged sender PayPal reported 18th September 2010

  • 0.2% Security Update Notification alleged sender HSBC Bank reported 30th September 2010

  • 0.2% BT Email Account Alert! alleged sender BT Online reported 22nd January 2010
