MillerSmiles provides its weekly phishing analysis for the week of 12th February 2011 to 19th February 2011

Over the last week MillerSmiles has received many scams from the public and through its HoneyTrap scam detection system. Below we provide an analysis of the scams we have received for the week of 12th February 2011 to 19th February 2011


During the week we reported a total of 88 phishing scams

78 or 89% of these scams linked to websites that were still online and live, ready to capture personal data, when we reported them

The 12 most popular scams as defined by search engine visits to our archive of scams we reported this week and in previous weeks were (as percentage of all visits to the site)

  • 0.71% AOL Payment Update alleged sender AOL reported 12th February 2011

  • 0.42% Notice Alert (Your Halifax Account Has Been Temporarily Suspended) alleged sender Halifax Bank reported 1st February 2011

  • 0.4% ACCOUNT STATUS alleged sender CHASE reported 14th February 2011

  • 0.36% *Recent account activity warning* alleged sender Microsoft reported 16th February 2011

  • 0.32% Verify Your HSBC Bank Account , alleged sender HSBC Bank Plc. reported 14th February 2011

  • 0.31% Attention ! Your Paypal Account Has Been Limited ! alleged sender PayPal reported 14th February 2011

  • 0.3% account restriction has been carried out alleged sender Halifax Online Banking reported 14th February 2011

  • 0.3% New Message from Online Banking alleged sender ANZ Internet Banking reported 15th February 2011

  • 0.3% New Security Online Activation alleged sender Lloyds reported 14th February 2011
