New Phishing Trick Discovered

A new potentially undectable phishing tactic has been discovered.

***

A UK security company - Netcraft - has unearthed a new and potentially undectectable phishing tactic.

The tactic involves an attempt to 'hijack' a frame on a legitimate banking website. Netcraft discovered this new method in a phishing scam involving Charter One Bank.

The new approach involves taking control of a legitimate frame on an online banking website and injecting content into it, thus making the whole process almost undectable. In the scam involving Charter One Bank, links were added at the bottom of the legitimate frame which pointed to phishing scripts hosted on a different server.

Clicking on the links would reveal what appears to be another page on the bank's website. The page would ask for account details to be entered and the phishers would be able to form a database of customers' sensitive account details.

This new tactic is indicative of the ever changing, innovative methods used by cyber-fraudsters.
