Phishing Attacks Up In February

30-Mar-2005The Anti-Phishing Working Group states that the number of phishing attacks reported is still increasing.***
13,141 unique phishing email scams were reported to the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) during February, up 2% on the number reported to the organisation in January.
The number of websites supporting phishing scams rose 1.8% to 2,625 relative to the previous month.
The group collates its data from a collection of Internet service providers (ISPs), network administrators, law enforcement agencies and individuals.
Peter Cassidy, the group's secretary-general revealed that the growth rate of phishing emails from July 2004 through to February 2005 was 26%.
The APWG also reported a rise in the reports of key-logging and pharming attempts.
Most phishing websites were hosted in the US during February, followed by China.
