The average online consumer has been bamboozled by online security jargon which is used to warn people about serious online security threats, an AOL report states.
"Phishing", "Rogue dialer" and "Spyware" are three of the commonest unknown terms.
84% of the survery recipients did not know that phishing scams are faked email scams.
25% claimed to know what spyware was. However 10% of those believed it was a computer program which spied on unfaithful partners.
The AOL report named, "Do you speak geek?" revealed that 83% of online consumers were significantly concerned about online personal information being revealed to criminal sources.
Alarmingly, 20% of those interviewed admitted that they did not know what measures to take in order to protect themselves appropriately online.
