Over the last week MillerSmiles has received many scams from the public and through its HoneyTrap scam detection system. Below we provide an analysis of the scams we have received for the week of 17th May 2014 to 24th May 2014


During the week we reported a total of 12 phishing scams

8 or 67% of these scams linked to websites that were still online and live, ready to capture personal data, when we reported them

The 12 most popular scams as defined by search engine visits to our archive of scams we reported this week and in previous weeks were (as percentage of all visits to the site)

  • 1.35% A new document has arrived in Online Banking. alleged sender Santander Online reported 11th February 2012

  • 0.73% You have a new message. 208.43.198.157 alleged sender paypal reported 1st August 2011

  • 0.46% PROTECT YOUR MONEY alleged sender NS&I reported 19th May 2014

  • 0.46% VERIFY YOUR BT ACCOUNT alleged sender BT reported 20th May 2014

  • 0.38% ACCOUNT SUSPENDED ! alleged sender Barclays Bank Plc reported 16th October 2013

  • 0.38% Your Account Is Suspended alleged sender Chase reported 20th May 2014

  • 0.37% Verify Your Account. alleged sender no-reply@bt.com ; reported 20th May 2014

  • 0.36% ACTION REQUIRED: Activate and view your BT bill online alleged sender ebilling@bt.com ; reported 18th May 2014

  • 0.35% Your PayPal account is limited until we hear from you alleged sender .PayPal reported 19th May 2014

  • 0.35% YAHOO DE-ACTIVATION ALERT alleged sender Yahoo reported 18th May 2014

  • 0.29% FW: Important - Commercial Documents alleged sender Lloyds Commercial Bank reported 23rd May 2014
