Mobile Phone Phishing Attacks?
***
26-Apr-2005Mobile viruses and phishing attacks are exploiting countless software vulnerabilites.***
"There has been a dramatic increase in Symbian malware targeting smart phones and mobile phones from 2004 Q4 to today. Researchers tracked five in Q4 and now there are as many as 50 mobile malware threats in the wild," so says Vincent Gulotto vice president of Mcafee AVERT.
Phishing attacks are becoming increasingly targeted. MillerSmiles News reported recently on the threat to corporate organisations from specifically targeted phishing email scams.
It appears that phishers are increasingly targeting reported vulnerabilites and focusing on systems that are not patched or updated. AVERT estimates that about 50% of systems on the internet are not properly patched.
One newly developed mobile phone targeted virus is Mabir.A, a virus that can be sent via Blootooth It mainly attacks smartphones such as the Nokia Series 60 by affecting incoming SMS and MMS messages.
