MillerSmiles provides its weekly phishing analysis for the week of 31st December 2016 to 7th January 2017

Over the last week MillerSmiles has received many scams from the public and through its HoneyTrap scam detection system. Below we provide an analysis of the scams we have received for the week of 31st December 2016 to 7th January 2017


During the week we reported a total of 30 phishing scams

29 or 97% of these scams linked to websites that were still online and live, ready to capture personal data, when we reported them

The 12 most popular scams as defined by search engine visits to our archive of scams we reported this week and in previous weeks were (as percentage of all visits to the site)

  • 0.42% Your Order with Amazon.com alleged sender AUTO-CONFIRM@AMAZON.COM reported 8th October 2012

  • 0.4% Login Security Question and Answer Change alleged sender service@intl.paypal.com reported 1st January 2017

  • 0.36% USAA PAYMENT PENDING APPROVAL alleged sender USAA reported 1st January 2017

  • 0.31% UPDATE REQUIRED alleged sender HALIFAX BANK PLC reported 10th August 2011

  • 0.24% Google Drive Unread Messages From???? alleged sender Google reported 31st December 2016

  • 0.24% Someone has marked your own account alleged sender AOL reported 5th January 2017

  • 0.23% An individual has already tagged your current profile alleged sender AOL reported 4th January 2017

  • 0.23% Somebody has recently marked your account alleged sender AOL reported 5th January 2017

  • 0.22% USAA PAYMENT PENDING APPROVAL alleged sender USAA reported 31st December 2016

  • 0.21% your account has been limited until we hear from you alleged sender service@paypal.com reported 3rd January 2017

  • 0.21% A woman seems to have marked your current profile alleged sender AOL reported 3rd January 2017

  • 0.21% A girl has now tagged your own account alleged sender AOL reported 5th January 2017
