New WAMU scam attempts to lure victims by inviting them to play in a fake Valentine's Day competition.

Reported WAMU (Washington Mutual) scams have been the rise here at MillerSmiles but we've never come across one like this.

The new scam attempts to lure victims into playing a fake competition in which victims are assured the top prize is a "$5000 GOLD RING". Of course, the only the prize people will receive from this scam is a reduction in their bank account balances.

The email scam claims to be from WAMU and asks readers to enter their account data by clicking on a link in the email. Victims are then taken to a spoof login page where details are captured by the phishers.

MillerSmiles traced the spoof login page to a server based in the Korean peninsula.

The email scam text:

As you follow the link below, to update your account, you will be automaticly added to our contest. There is no fee, and no risk. All you have to do is fill in the form, and there you are. The draw for a winner will take place on 24 February, and the winner will receive a phonecall (and email) to confirm the prize. So show your half how much you love him/her! A 5000$ GOLD RING, can be yours ... for just a few clicks.
