Spanish Phishing Gang Busted

02-Aug-2005A 15-strong gang of suspected phishers has been busted in Spain.***
Spanish police have said that they have arrested 15 people in connection with a suspected phishing scam operation.
The scammers are suspected of having successfully stolen several million dollars already.
The suspected leader of the gang, a 23 year old Spaniard faced 14 arrest charges and has since fled to Argentina. He has subsequently been found and arrested in the Santa Fe region of Argentina.
Other suspected scammers remain in custody and are of Italina, Ecuadorean, Romanian and Argentinian nationalities. The technology trail has revealed that the gang used servers in Canada, Thailand and Russia among other countries.
The investigation into the ring is believed to have started following a string of complaints from major banks earlier in the year.
