MillerSmiles provides its weekly phishing analysis for the week of 22nd May 2010 to 29th May 2010

Over the last week MillerSmiles has received many scams from the public and through its HoneyTrap scam detection system. Below we provide an analysis of the scams we have received for the week of 22nd May 2010 to 29th May 2010


During the week we reported a total of 116 phishing scams

82 or 71% of these scams linked to websites that were still online and live, ready to capture personal data, when we reported them

The 12 most popular scams we reported as defined by search engine visits to each scam report were (as percentage of all visits to the site)

  • 0.5% Alert : Issue Consigning Your Account alleged sender Cahoot reported 29th April 2008

  • 0.45% Tax Refund Notification alleged sender HM Revenue and Customs reported 27th June 2009

  • 0.41% New Santander Online Banking alleged sender Abbey Bank reported 3rd July 2009

  • 0.35% New Message from Downey Savings Fraud Department alleged sender Downey Savings reported 29th July 2007

  • 0.25% RE-ACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT alleged sender Halifax reported 1st May 2008

  • 0.24% Hotmail e-mail alert ( arabelles@hotmail.com ) alleged sender Hotmail reported 17th January 2010

  • 0.21% TD Commercial Banking alleged sender TD Commercial Banking reported 24th May 2010

  • 0.2% Halifax Bank: Your access has been suspended alleged sender Halifax reported 23rd May 2010

  • 0.19% Re: CareerBuilder Job Application : Administrative Assistant alleged sender Iris Derbman reported 27th May 2010
