MillerSmiles provides its weekly phishing analysis for the week of 10th July 2010 to 17th July 2010

Over the last week MillerSmiles has received many scams from the public and through its HoneyTrap scam detection system. Below we provide an analysis of the scams we have received for the week of 10th July 2010 to 17th July 2010


During the week we reported a total of 99 phishing scams

75 or 76% of these scams linked to websites that were still online and live, ready to capture personal data, when we reported them

The 12 most popular scams as defined by search engine visits to our archive of scams we reported this week and in previous weeks were (as percentage of all visits to the site)

  • 1.25% Hotmail e-mail alert ( arabelles@hotmail.com ) alleged sender Hotmail reported 17th January 2010

  • 1.15% Notice: You have 2 new security message alleged sender HSBC Bank plc® reported 12th July 2010

  • 1.03% Your Account Has Been Revoked alleged sender HSBC reported 10th July 2010

  • 0.77% Account alert - livgreenwell@hotmail.co.uk alleged sender Hotmail reported 7th July 2010

  • 0.61% Your Account Has Been De-activated alleged sender HSBC Bank Uk reported 6th July 2010

  • 0.42% YOUR AMAZON.COM ORDER (D13-4981410-2855166) alleged sender Amazon.com reported 22nd June 2010

  • 0.32% Online Security Backup alleged sender Natwest Digital Banking reported 29th June 2010

  • 0.3% You have 1 new message alleged sender Egg reported 14th July 2010

  • 0.3% [Norton Anti] New message from Lloyds Bank alleged sender Lloyds TSB Bank plc reported 12th July 2010

  • 0.3% New Message from Downey Savings Fraud Department alleged sender Downey Savings reported 29th July 2007

  • 0.3% account restriction has been carried out alleged sender Halifax reported 12th July 2010

  • 0.29% NatWest Online Banking: Account Service Request Alert alleged sender Natwest reported 11th July 2010
